LANDCORPS 2023
California, August 2023
Over 37,000 community organizers, activists, and youth mobilized around the country to support the campaign of Marissa Alexander, Free Marissa Now! Marissa was an incarcerated domestic violence survivor and mother convicted for defending herself from her estranged husband. Marissa is now free and running her non-profit.
The people reclaimed their black southern liberation movement, and we re-centered our women's movement against patriarchy by becoming self-determined on our herstory, working together to envision our lives beyond being pushed out, unprotected and overpoliced. Free Marissa Now!, operated from 2012 - 2015 by four radical women organizations, that raised $100,000 and resiliently and victoriously freed Marissa Alexander from a 20-year conviction. We also ousted Angela Corey, the DA who convicted Marissa and failed to convict George Zimmerman for the murder of Trayvon Martin.
During Black August 2023, Parable of the Sower Intentional Community Cooperative invites you to join us in California for LandCorps. We will gather as poor and working-class people representing Black, women, queer, youth, transgender, elderly, disabled, and migrant communities.
We will declare:
This black women's movement is still alive and well! We bring our crunkness. We display our swag. We are worthy. We fight on our community frontlines collaboratively against violence, patriarchy, incarceration, poverty, and displacement. Since the Pandemic and the Uprising 2020, single mothers have been the most impacted, but not the most defeated.
We believe in a feminist new economy of liberation and resources -- our bodies, land, and democratic processes -- to envision our herstory and actualize our humanity, demanding safety and dignity for us and our people.
We commit to building a new world in Just Transition for the greater good by showing unconditional love for our people and the land we will live on.
We have created a democratic process of a black woman worker-owned cooperative through University Sin Fronteras/ University Without Walls, Rochdale Principles accountability, and mutual respect for each other and for those who will work on our land during the LandCorps.
Our strategic plan launches a Thirty Day “Beloved Community Practice Program” known as LandCorps.
During LandCorps, the Parable of the Sower Intentional Community Cooperative invites you to work, build, share and live with each other, and advance our land construction base, through our local struggles and our larger movement.
We will coordinate the seven major societies on the land during the thirty-day launch of LandCorps. The seven societies are:
1.) UMOJA - Building Society: Constructing Structures
2.) KUJICHAGULIA - Food Justice Society: Kitchen/garden
3.) UJIMA - Freedom School Society: Children, Teens and evening entertainment
4.) UJAMAA - Elder Council Society: Political Education (PE) and Peoples Movement Assembly (PMA)
5.) KUUMBA - Liberation Office Society: Orientation and Welcome Committee Society
6.) NIA - Grounds Society: Security, Health, and Safety
7.) IMANI - Council Society: Daily Meetings, Healer Responders, and Community Liaisons
These actions working every day in this Beloved community will further support everyone’s own local struggles once they return home. We also will reconnect our comrades from Free Marissa Now to a larger movement of resistance needed today, under the banner of #wehaveeverythingweneed.
